I hate to burst everybody’s bubble, but the reciprocating of links is an outdated practice and holds little value. As a matter of fact Goggle™ can penalize your site if you are reciprocating links. http://groups.google.nl/group/Google_Webmaster_Help-Indexing/msg/c80b6466bcf8ec97
Links from sites with low or no page rank (PR) have no authoritative value. A properly established link passes essentially 2 things: Authority & Relevancy. The higher the PR on a site, the more authority (and PR) it passes. The anchor text or what the link says, such as “Matt’s Website”, will only help if I want to be found for “Matt’s Website” as opposed to Phoenix Real Estate or something of that nature. There are ways of reaching the top of the search engine results pages (SERPs) without doing what is considered by Google™ to be manipulation.
If the onsite optimization for a website is done properly, you should only need a couple of links from sites with some authority or PR. Here is a company that sells highly optimized real estate websites. I hope that this is helpful; I just thought that you all might want to know a little more about search engine optimization (SEO).

The best way to get your site to top rankings is to have well postioned keywords and submit unique article content to directories. Most will allow you to add an anchor text link:
Chicago Real Estate . If Chicago Real Estate is your primary keyword you are on your way to higherc serps. The drawback is if your sigt is new opr if you have a very competive keyword it will take you quite a while to reap the benefits, possibly 6-10 months.

I am also going to throw in my two cents about reciprocal linking (trading links). It is best to stay away from it, in moderation recip. linking can be a powerful tool, but taking it overboard is a surefire way to reach disaster in the serps.
The original poster will surely receive a huge penalty slap on their ranking for this idea, instead try building quality one way inbound links to your websites. Aside from article marketing which has already been said, consider using all of the available web 2.o type community sites on the Internet. Setup profiles with links to your site, create blogs on free blogging platforms and practice a moderate amount of social bookmarking.
There are a million other ideas that you can use to build links for free, once you get started in the link building process, the ideas will begin to flow naturally. Most of all have fun with it!

jesdon is right on. You really want links from "established authorities", like your local newspaper.

Before you invest too much money on your website, the first thing you should do is use Google Analytics or some other 3rd party software that will help you analyze your site's performance.

I just was reading the posts and came across yours. I do Point2Agent handshakes and have no problem exchanging websites to advertise. If you would be so gracious, please contact me at TerrySwett@ConnectRealty.com and I will give you my website info. I have a couple and deciding which one to hang onto.

Hi Terry, thanks for sharing links.
You can join www.mydwelling.com and add a link to your site on your profile page. You can also post your listing on the classifieds section and use the RSS fearure display all your listings on your profile page. There is no cost to do this.
Then you can also add the mydwelling badge on your site and blog to promote a link back to your mydwelling page.

According to the research I have done on SEO - mattjackson4 and inspectortips are correct. I am all for SEO however adding links to your website from people that you don't know (especially not knowing their business practices) seems like a disaster waiting to happen.
Very much agreed. I am all for having relevant links to my site but blindly adding realtor web site links when you have no clue what kind of business they do is a terrible idea. How would you feel if one of your links is indicted on fraud? Can you imagine the fallout of someone finds that persons site and then makes their way to yours? Terrible PR!!

Instead of blindly swapping links for advertising purposes, how about posting links that have been helpful in growing ones business...not to give away ones secrets, but I know several Agents/Investors who have successfully used www.PropertyLeadsNow.com, or even networked through www.facebook.com!
facebook.com is the single best thing you can do. For a $5 a day investment and the time to post a few articles and blogs I am getting 1,000 hits a month to my site consistently and I've picked up 5 clients for the next year already.
Scott,
Can you elaborate how you use facebook to expand your website presence? This sounds interesting yet I have no idea what you're talking about.
thanks Drew.
Chutta,
For a small fee you can display your ad on the side of facebook. You can create a landing page for your business along with tailoring your profile to promote yourself. You can start groups where buyers and sellers can ask questions, upload blogs, articles, video, and other helpful information, and most importantly so many people are using it. You can reach out to past clients informally and get introduced to your friends friends without forcing your business cards or other marketing down their throat. What ends up happening for me is people I knew from elementary school through college and from trips, or anything else, find me on here because they see my ad. They're thrilled to see i'm doing well and ohh wouldn't you know it they have a cousin who just got married and is looking to buy a place. She introduces you through facebook to her cousin, the cousin checks out your page and sees your legit, and from there you have yourself a client. This is just one example, but the point is when it comes to bank for your buck facebook is king- for the next 10 seconds till the next internet thing comes along at least
Also it's simply the power of the mob. People who don't even remotely know me join my company group page simply because they see other people doing it. That's powerful because once you're friends you can see all their personal info. Another example...a friend has a friend who had a picture of a horse as her profile picture. I clicked on her and checked out her profile. After a little more digging I found out she was looking for a place and I knew of one out her way that my friend had just listed that allowed horses. When I called her she was amazed that I was actually reaching out to her with a listing that was exactly what she was looking for. I took her to see the property the next day and she ended up not buying it but a very similar one right down the street. The point is, you can search by interests and hobbies and all that and people let there guards down when you have things in common. If you are sending a message to someone in a group about your favorite tv show and he happens to check out your page and see you sell houses and he's looking to sell he's likely to give you a chance because you've become someone he actually knows and not a sleazy salesman. He has things in common with you- friends, interests, etc- so he feels like he can trust you. Its just such a simple cheap way to market yourself and promote your love for what you do.

The more links you have to your site, the higher you will be on google's search engine. On my website, I am creating a place to advertise other agents across the country. If you are interested in trading links (I put you on my website & you put me on yours) please let me know. Please feel free to check out my website: www.utahsonlinehomes.com
