Transfer of pre-approval or commitment letter.

On April 23rd my husband and I went to get pre-approved to buy a house. My husband states we are going directly for the commitment letter. At that time we were going to purchase a home in NY. That is where the bank was located. It has been 2 months now, as we are still waiting. During the course of waiting we decided we want to move to PA instead for certain reasons. The bank is a well known bank, located everywhere. My question is, once we are approved can we transfer this to the same bank in PA? we called a loan officer at the bank there and he told us we would have to ask our loan officer in NY. We know chase bank does this but don't know if this bank does. My husband doesn't want to ask our loan officer out of fear they will stop working on our loan.

Start over with some professionals in PA. You may want to stay away from depository institutions (banks), as they are generally staffed by the least expensive primates they can employ.

If you haven't received a pre-approval letter in two months, someone dropped the ball. The LO either has either forgotten about you or avoiding you for some reason. You should probably look elsewhere to get your new pre-approval. A pre-approval would only take a couple of days at most to obtain from a good lender. Use Zillow as a tool to find a good local lender in your area to help you out. Good luck.

Neither a pre-approval nor a commitment letter should take two months.  If it takes that long to do this, I would be concerned about meeting a closing date when that time comes.  You may want to look into other sources.  Fact of the matter is that by the time you close on the house you will probably need to update all your documents anyways.  Might as well work with someone that is dedicated to the job at hand

It's been two months and you haven't received your pre-approval? My goodness, they must be working their fingers to the bone. You should move on to another lender. Most non-Big Bank lenders will have a pre-approval within 1 day or less.

Depending on the Loan Program that you are Pre Approved under.  As long as you were not receiving State or County assistance for Down Payment and a Conventioanl loan you are fine.  FHA has Loan Limits which are higher in some states and lower in others FYI.  You should be fine.  Good Luck and There are many Great Mortgage Brokers Licensed in PA just look them up on Zillow.

Also, no we haven't looked at homes yet as we were told to wait until we got this letter. I figure they know they have a reputation for taking a while.
