Using VA loan benefit in Manhattan

My partner and I have been pre-approved for a VA loan up to $900,000.  We would like to buy in New York City.  There are two (yes only two) approved buildings neither of which have units available.  I am looking for some advice or recommendations on this process that seems a huge hassle to take advantage of something that is supposed to be a benefit for service.  Any ideas or suggestions welcome....

You can try to get buildings approved.  Generally speaking an established building will be a lot easier than a new one.  Your lender should be able to provide you with a "how to" in order to try and get buildings approved.
