VISA card used to pay for listing subsequently used fraudulently

I paid for the listing service using my VISA card ($39.95). This card has very little activity only used when Discover or PayPal is not accepted.   Three days later I got a call from 800-446-0664 saying they suspected fraudulent use on the card and started asking information, I hung up and Goggled the number and found it as a known fraud number.  The next day I got a valid call from the bank that issued my VISA card and described two attempted uses the day before. I called my bank to verify, and they have cancelled the account and will send me a new card with a new number.

If Zillow would accept PayPal it would greatly reduce/eliminate this type of issue.

I'm not sure how or why PayPal would be any more secure. If the thieves somehow managed to hack into Zillow (or one of the other accounts in which you used your VISA card), they'd be able to hack into the same account and get your PayPal information.

One thing I use in those cases--check to see if your bank offers it--is a temporary, disposable number. You get the disposable number, specify a maximum amount to be charged, and an expiration date anywhere from 1 to 12 months away. Then you provide that disposable number. Your real number remains hidden, and your maximum exposure is the amount you specified for that disposable number.

Hope that helps.

I've had problems with PayPal.  I'll never again do business with an organization requiring Paypal.

I had problems with privacy on Pay Pal.  they distributed my E-mail contact information to major spammers, many out of the country that couldn't be prosecuted, and many selling products that could be considered questionable.

I have not seen this complaint with Zillow before. I think that they handle their site security as far as ad payment fairly well. PayPal is a service that would allow people to pay Zillow via their local bank account if they did not have a credit card (or did not want to use one), but there may be additional costs with that associated with using PayPal for Zillow. I do not know.

I've only seen this complaint one other time; and it was clear the security breach did not occur on Zillow.

Actually, I know of no way to breach Zillow's security on the credit cards, and their employees that have access to card information are not going to be stealing out of a customer's credit card.

The only way I know such a breach could occur is if someone was looking over ones' shoulder when typing in the card number and other verification information.

Zillow occasionally has glitches where a card is charged multiple times for the same thing... but a Zillow customer service representative would quickly get those redundant charges reversed if brought to their attention.
