Value of a view?

I live in Oakland, California and will be putting on the market, a home with an unobstructed view of the Golden Gate, Sand Francisco Bay and San Mateo Bridges. I am wondering if there is a general rule of thumb as to how much a view could potentially add to the value of one's home.

Very nice view!!! Your best bet is to talk to a local appraiser. They can give you a number. With that view, you may want to consider doing an appraisal before you put it on the market. That's really the best way to price it correctly from the beginning.

I think it could be pretty significant, but only as much as your local market will bear. Your view sounds quite amazing and should fetch more than a home in the immediate area without a view.

Here in Orlando, lake front property is WAY more than that home across the street without the view.

Views are huge, very important, would you want a 5000 square foot home looking over a dump/water treatment plant/airport or the same 5000 square foot home overlooking San Fran and the Golden Gate Bridge, the home with the view will command much more!

Talk with a local Realtor, they will be able to tell you in detail more than likely as to what your home will be worth due to the extra view.
