Wally, Zillow is a nice toy, but anyone serious about buying a home will seek the help of a professional Realtor. Fear not that this website has your home listed lower than you feel it should be, because no Realtor worth a penny would EVER use the Zestimate for anything other than entertainment.

Hi Wally,

Is your question directed to Realtors or the folks at Zillow?  Zillow has never seen or walked through your home and is a computer program that generates values based on their formulas for determining values which often are not accurate.  It's best to have a Realtor who's familiar with the neighborhood come by and assess the value.

Wally, I even thought that when I looked up my home home once!  Don't worry your home is probably valued very close to what you think, sometimes it is more.  The only way to know is to have a local agent come and get inside of your home.  They are the ones who know your area and know how to price effectively.  Hope this helps!

...let me add, as a realtor, I do not rely on the 'price' given by search engines. When I need to know what a house is valued at , I do a comparative market analysis using the past three months sales and other criterai, I wish it was as simple as looking at one of these search companies, its not, done right, it takes a long time.

You are right.  Zillow doesn't look at every house but depends on information obtained from public databases.   yes, there are errors.  But, you are in the driver's seat.  Claim your home and edit the incorrect facts.   (Details in Zillow FAQs).     With their <200 employees for 100,000,000 houses, doing street by street "homework" is a mammoth many decade task.
