Want to buy a house within 2 years but have bad credit now. Will a lender help us prepare?

Hello. We are a couple who are trying to clean up our credit and save up a deposit looking to buy our first home within two years. We are wondering if there is a lender who would be willing to sit down with us and go over our current situation and give advice on how to get to our goal. Looking for a human approach vs. just asking for the numbers and inputting into a calculator.

There are many lenders who will work with you to get you prepared, who will want your loyalty when it is coming to financing. Please be careful, you don't always have to pay for this service. There are many that require upfront payments, or a monthly fee. These fees are not neccessary.

Take a look at the link below. In it is a link to another blog showing some things about credit from a lender. It should be helpful.

"I want to buy a house. It will be at least one year before I am ready to buy. What should I do now to prepare myself?"

Financial Peace University through Dave Ramsey would be a great place to start.  However, if you aren't a fan of his style, there are many other books and programs to follow that will help you get your financial house together so that some day you will be in a position to purchase a home. FPU is taguth at many local places mainly churches and is a 12 week program.  The lessons there can then be matched up with the guidance of a local lender.

Yes, Lenders will help you so long as you follow the recipe. Be honest with your Loan Officer and they can help guide you through the home buying preperation. Credit can be cleaned up with good discipline and time. Again, follow your Loan Officers guidance and you'll be on your way. Best of luck on your journey!

Thanks for the advice. We'll see if we can find a lender who will work with us without the upfront fees as you've mentioned.

There are lenders that will show you what  you have to do to be on your road to credit repair. Most are free, all they ask is your loyality, use them when it's time to get your loan. Please be wary of so called credit repair places that charge you high upfront fees.

Welcome to Zillow.

How do you need to be "groomed"?  Many lenders can offer hints in a brief review, but are not coaches.
