Looks like no one from this area is spekaing up, so I'll try and help with the general idea.

Try asking a local agent to point you in the right directio for that information. 

For "safety" questions, I'd recommend trying the local sheriff / police department website.  Compare their stats to where you currently live so you have an idea of what reality is vs. stats on paper.

Certain predators are required to register in TX, but even then, if they don't register, who knows.  The Texas DPS website has a database on offenders that you can search.
