We currently have a coal burning furnace coverted to gas. Want to finish basement

The converted coal burner along with the ducts prevent converting the basement into living space.  What contractors would demo the old heating system in its entirety and install a gas furnace.  The hot water heater would also have to be relocated.

Before doing any work yourself, make sure no pipes are wrapped in asbestos. If asbestos is not properly removed, it can be an expensive process to remove asbestos fibers from the rest of the home.

Try to google contractors who specialize in this field and see who will come by to see whats involved. Any contractor worth his weigh will give you a free estimate. You can ask for referrals from past clients and you can also contact the better business bureau. There are a lot of avenues to find the best contractor for the job. Try this first. They are the specialist and will know the best way to handle your certain situation. Thank you for your question.

Depending on your expertise and ability. Demo-ing the old furnace can save you a little up front. An ad on sites like Craigslist stating you will give a person this free furnace so they can scrap it in return seeing that they haul it away. You would be surprised at the responses you get , even if you had to pay a couple hundred bucks someone will take it away. This is cheaper than a HVAC contractor adding 1000s. Just my thought.
