We doubled the size of our home with an addition. Why hasn't this affected our zestimate?

We added an entire second story to our home. We added three bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as doubled the square footage of our home.  This was over a year ago, and still isn't reflected in our zestimate.  Any chances of updating the database to reflect a more honest and accurate value of our home?  Seems misleading.

I did the same thing to my old house in 2000 and it was never updated on the Cook County websites even though i had to have pulled permits for such a major job. My taxes were always a lot lower than comparable houses in the area. I sold the house for $400,000.00 in 2006 and the zestimate for it today is like $160,000.00. So I would just enjoy the lower property taxes and ignore the zestimate.

"this was done over a year ago".   Perhaps it is time to go and see what the county records say on the house.   Zillow taps into those directly.    The country/city databases tend to be updated properly just before the tax assessments roll out

Sunny is right....claim your home.  Also, I believe Zillow pulls information from public tax records.  Check with your town hall to make sure your addition has been added to the public record for taxes. (Assuming you pulled proper permits).  Then again, if it has not been added, you  may be paying lower taxes and do you really want to point it out ;)

I forgot to mention that you can update your square footage just by editing your owner facts. That alone should help a lot.

Your best bet is to claim your house here and update any house facts that are not accurate. You can also create an owner's estimate to include feature or update to your house the Zillow does not have listed here. Both of these things can help your Zestimate be more accurate.
