I understand your frustration. You've been thru alot after going thru the buying process and all that comes with it and then ALL of the work it sounds like you have done. You have been busy haven't you? I bet your neighbors love you! And now you get a ticket for regrowth of weeds after you weed wacked the yard. Stick to your guns and go talk it out with a supervisor and explain your position, bring pics of when you moved in and now to prove how you have done nothing but work on maintaining the property since you moved in.
Good luck and it sounds like you are doing a great job.

First, THANKS for bringing life back to a derelict property. Whenever we get a new assignment for an REO the first thing we do is get over there, asses what needs to be done to soften its impact on the neighbors/neighborhood, then take care of it! For all the vitriol thrown at BofA, they insist on spending $1,000 right off the bat to bring the home BACK to some sembelance of normalcy. Kinda hard with SOME of our properties, 1995 South Wright Road needed MAJOR abatement from the County as well as electrical inspections and many field crew hours removing debris!
You must remember, the City of SR is run by City Employees who are NOW under the gun to bring in the money honey! I'd haul down to the City Council chambers and during the public forum portion voice your displeasure at such an ingregious fine!

hey mike, what happened to "its only 12,000 dollars"? 210? thats peanuts... oh, what? dont feel the need to abate your conscience that you probably destroyed a couple dozen people's lives by selling by pretending that national housing collapses need to occur every so often? you only get angry when you arent on the hook?
better late than never!
dude, i agree. fight it and win. was the ticket delivered in-person?

If you want to take the "easy road" and have a better chance of winning, let someone else take the fight on for you. You could go through the government channels to appeal this, which is typically weighted towards red tape, paperwork, etc., all for $210.
Or...
Let the local news in on this and at least get yor 15 seconds of fame in the process. A story like this is made-for-news fodder, especially for any "consumer advocate" piece where the slant is "little-guy -v- big-brother". It would play especially well if you had before/after shots of the property from when it was for sale and after your initial efforts.

Wow, somebody sure dug into the bottom of the mail bag for that one.
That posting is almost three years old.
That posting is almost three years old.

Weed and Rubbish Abatement??!!
"vacant for ten years"
"Such a sweet old lady lived here, you know her parents built most of the houses on this street"
"Great to see someone bringing that place to life!"
"Hey, you up on the roof, re-roofing this old piece, it looks great!"
"All the work your putting into that house is really gonna help the whole area"
" Yeah knob and tube is dangerous.....WHAT! you've replaced it already!!!!! It's only been a few months since you moved in?"
Yes, we have worked our butts off getting this place livable again. In a very short amount of time, too. New roof, re-finished original hardwood floors, re-wired, bathroom is almost remodeled and the yard is clean......at least we thought the yard was clean? Apparently there is a was a 4 foot square patch of weeds on the side of my new house that regrew rather quickly after I weed-whacked the whole jungle down when we moved in.
The City of Santa Rosa decided I should pay a $210 fine for having such a hideous weed patch. The house has been vacant for TEN YEARS! Do you know how tall weeds grow in TEN YEARS? TALL!!!!!! I've hauled two dumpsters full of garbage, weeds, rotting termite infested wood and the heap of old moldy carpet from the backyard away. Then the some "Real Man" wannabe comes along from SRFD and says "oh look weeds! They get a ticket, Eeh Hee HEE HEEEEEE Snort!" Fire danger my gym shorts. We move in and start kickin' ass on this derelict eyesore of a house and get a ticket for a friggin' weed patch a few weeks after moving in...... BRILLIANT!
