West Sacramento Open House Sign Ordinance

I've noticed several of my Realtor friends who have not been following this policy, so thought I'd share it with you in an effort to keep us all in compliance (and keep the city from picking up signs again).

West Sacramento

The City of West Sacramento allows one sign per property, but it must remain entirely on the property it applies to, be smaller than six square feet, and can not be directly illuminated. This sign must be removed within seven days of sale, rental or lease of the property. Portable off-site open-house signs are allowed, and need to be smaller than four square feet and can only be displayed between 8:00am and 4:00pm the day of the open-house. They must be on private property and can never be placed on city owned property. On arterial and collector roads, open-house signs must be placed five hundred feet apart, on smaller roads one sign may be placed per intersection.

The main violations I have seen are signs on city property and multiple signs at a single intersection. One is plenty. Four signs at one intersection won't get more people to your open house.

Thanks for posting this for agents.

As a normal human I sure appreciate the rules about signs not on city property.   Over the years, hundreds of illegal open house signs on sidewalks have forced me to step into the street when out walking.   Think of the potential lawsuits for accidents or even sprained ankles.

I would see leaving a sign on a sidewalk as negative publicity. We all need to be good neighbors and respect the fact that there are some people out there that may not want to look at an open house today. I saw an agent today setting up signs for an open house (Yes, on a Tuesday?) He had 2 huge Yellow signs with Foreclosure info on them attached to the signs in the center divider and two more open house signs blocking the sidewalk. All on one little corner. It just looks bad. People like that is why we have a sign ordinance in the first place.

Just one sign, people and don't worry, they will see it.
