Linda, the short answer is "It depends" and the long answer follows.  You have to be very careful using generic answers for real estate or else you could end up very far from the "real" answer.

For example, I just pulled up details in Twin Falls and could answer your question any of the following ways for "days on market"

Average days on market of the 351 single family homes (not condo's, townhouses, or mobile homes) still active or with contingent offers per Intermountain MLS) in Twin Falls area = 118.  That means of the homes still available, after 118 days they are still waiting.

Take away the homes with "contingent" offers and you have 342 and 115 days on market still awaiting acceptable offers.

If you base it on the "pending offers" with acceptable offers waiting to close, (but excluding lease purchase sales) there are 122 waiting to close and they have an average of 88 days on the market.f

If you base it on sales so far this year, there have been 312 homes closed so far the average days on market was 96.

But do you want us to count based on days on market before the successful offer or based on days listed till closed?

Also, you should really be looking at "absorption rates" instead since that measures the actual number of closings divided by the amount of inventory to figure how long it would take to "absorb" the inventory (assuming no new listings came into the market).  Therefore, with 342 available homes in the Twin Falls area at the current sales rate of about 52 a month, you have over six and a half months inventory!

The reason for such a larger number doing it via absorption rates is that not all homes are priced to sell and not all show well or are marketed effectively.

A good Realtor will understand these numbers and customize them even further based on the size, style, age, condition of your home.

I recognize that I didn't even address the sq. ft. question since that is an even longer answer.  Summary for square footage is "why do they sell a tent for less money than lingerie?"
