Alan's right... first find out what type of stucco system you have. Is it hard-coat or EIFS (synthetic---involving foam). The majority of problems with both systems have been with improper installation and lack of proper flashing and sealant. GET AN INSPECTION! Just make sure you hire a stucco inspector.Too many home inspectors are not familiar with stucco systems.

First you need to know what type of stucco it is. Next you need to know if it was installed properley.  You should get a home inspection. The inspection report should give you website to find all the information you need about the type of stucco.

Nick,
I know that the stucco exterior has been known to develop cracks and moisture gets behind it. There was a big problem with the simulated stucco also known as Acrocrete. I suggest you get advise from a local contractor and or a building supply store.
