The benefit is that you can start your own company. You can earn half of more peoples production, plus all of your production. Sort of like cloning. The problem is that some of your clones will be smarter than others. Some would argue that "Agent" sound s cooler. Especially, brokers sur-named Bond.

It seems like it would be worth the effort to be a broker, but it also seems counter-intuitive to aspire to a designation in a sales profession with "broke" as its root.

Besides, you don't have to deal with the "why do you deserve X% commissino for driving me around and doing some paperwork?" questions - even though you're taking a significant cut of that commission [Why not see if we can focus consumer frustration on broker commissions along with REAs?]  :-)

If you were a broker and a buyer wanted a concession you could offer it and perhaps still get a bigger commission than if you were simply an agent paying the broker their percentage.

Personally, I would prefer to be richer than to be broker.

Illinois is doing away with the Salesperson license in 2012. Everyone will have to upgrade to a Broker's license.
