What areas in/around Nashville have good quality school systems?

I am doing some preliminary research.  I am open to other areas as well, but thought it would make sense to isolate an area that I was interested in.

Thanks in advance.

Funny how many agents want to dance around rather than give answers. Truth is teacher salaries are paid by local property taxes, so pricey areas have better paid teachers.  Add to that, most wealthy families seek private schools, leaving even more surplus for these schools.

This one is tricky! In the past i have set up some walk throughs while my clients are in town. Schools are so different all over the country , I have found it is best not to assume things in such a personal topic.

The great thing you'll find in your research is that you have a lot of choices in the Nashville area for award winning schools. For example, Williamson County Schools get a ton of attention as the top rated choice in our area (GreatSchools.net), but you'll find a ton of parents and teachers from Sumner County or Murfreesboro schools (Rutherford County) or those from our nationally recognized Harpeth Valley Elementary in Bellevue (Nashville/Davidson County; Metro Schools) or MLK Junior High in Nashville that would take issue with those numbers being the whole story. They are proud of what they do, and can make the argument for their schools being the best choice for you.

As your research turns into visits, please set up some tours with a few schools around Nashville. The staff members are very accommodating of these types of requests and do an excellent job of explaining what specializations they offer as well as introductions for you to specific educators. Having personally helped a number of teachers from primary education, secondary education, and professors at both Vanderbilt & Belmont Universities -- you'll find that our area has seen clear benefits from education so recently that the culture is exactly what you would want for your household; competitive :-)

Do you have any specific questions we can help you with just yet?

I have gotten really good community info from city data from both school and neighborhoods. Ask your question on city data so you can talk to the people who live in that specific neighborhood about their local schools. No agent can legally steer you to specific neighborhoods or certain schools due to the way they interpret the fair housing law. Although I am sure that agent would help if they could, you have to pick an area and school for yourself.

Generally, it is wise to start looking for schools that are well funded with high test scores. Many states like TN have online "report cards" here for both the state overall and school by school that can be a good place to start.

Hi there!  Nashville has often been refferred to as the  "Athens of the South" becuase of it's focus on schools and the number of public, private and charter schools in and surrounding greater metro area.  No matter what area you choose, you will find many school options available.

I work with many clients who are relocating into the area, so I can completely understand your desire to make the best choice!  If you click onto www.PreviewNashvilleRealEstate.com there is a "Search Area Schools" tab that will allow you to get aquainted with all of the options in the area.  There is also a link to www.GreatSchools.com which is a website that provides information, reviews and has discussions about area schools.  If I can be of any help, please feel free to call me!

There are all sorts of school rating systems on the web. MNPS.org is helpful too. As Realtors, our Code of Ethics forbids on steering clients toward or away from certain schools, neighborhoods, etc. based on Fair Housing guidelines. I would recommend posing this question to an active community forum like City-Data.
