What assistance is available for someone with good credit, unemployed and current on debt?

Profile picture for rpm20917
I have been unemployed for 9 months and reached the limits on what savings I have.My mortgage lender is unwilling to work with me until I become delinquent at which point my credit deteriorates and I am subject to unfavorable terms and penalties.I would be better able to secure employment if I were able to re-align my debt. What options are available to me?

Have you talked with your lender about the new loan modification programs? The Obama Administration just put them in place very recently, and most of the banks are trying to implement them now.

You'll need to verify the details with your lenders, but it's supposed to be that if you can prove hardship (the loss of your job) that you should be able to qualify to reduce your mortgage payments to 31% of your gross monthly income.

Rpm,

I'm sorry you're in the situation that you are in.  Unfortunately, I don't really have any better news than what you've already been told.  No one is going to lend when you have no employment or paycheck.  I understand you are wanting to keep your credit in good standing, and I applaud you on that. What help have you asked for specifically from your lender?
