In California, the Notice of Trustee's Sale establishes the date of the sale, which is the actual completion of the foreclosure.  This is filed about three weeks before the sale.

I have found, however, that many Trustee's Sale dates get postponed.  The only way to find out is to call the subject Trustee.

If you are thinking of trying to buy at a Trtustee's Sale, it is not for the average home buyer.  At a Trustee's Sale you must pay all cash, no financing, and no contingencies of any kind.  No inspection rights, no guarantees, and you might not even be getting clear title.  You could also be inheriting occupants that will need to be evicted.

You could Check the Auction date on Title. If you would like I could send you a copy of your title report.

The foreclosure sales are usually posted at the courthouse the day before the sale. You may want to check the procedure in your county to see when the actual postings times are.

The lender decides everything in a future foreclosure.

I think the date for the foreclosure is set by the lender. If the lender postpones it then it can be hard to track when the sale is set for. There is a website called [website and promotion removed by Zillow moderator]
