In real estate, home sale process involves several status, most common status are:

Active,
Pending,
Sold

Active means the house is available for sell;
Pending Inspection means there is an offer, and the buyer is doing inspection;
Pending: means the inspection stage is passed, and once finance contingency passed, is ready to close;
Sold is as it says, the house is sold and title is transferred.

Helen is correct.  It means that the owner has accepted an offer, that the inspections have been done and it is just pending to close.  Very rarely do homes come back on the market once they go pending.

It means that there is an accepted offer on the property and it is under contract, usually two terms are used pending or contingent, they are kind of the same thing just depends on the terms of the agreement.
