If you don't have a TV show to watch and it happens to you...Call a water restoration company as soon as possible.  They should help you get things restored to normal and help avoid the potential of mold.

I had it happen to me. My homeowner insurance company handled it 100%. Of course I had the home for sale in MD after I had moved to Florida. Sure it was off the market a couple of months but it got handled.

A good agent would advise to keep the damn house at 55 degrees. Let your clients foot the extra $200 heating bill to save them from a $20k disaster. GEESE GUYS!!!!!!!

Once owner has determined how they'd like to handle the mess water has left and called the insursance company to come assess, agent can help client with contractors since out of town owners. Like J.Ryan said easiest to keep heat on!

The owner should be notified ASAP.  Most people have email no matter where they are.  It would be his/her/their responsibility to contact the insurance company to assess the damages.  After that, a water restoration company (or a company that specializes in such clean-ups) should take care of the problem.
