Interview a couple of Local Experts in your area and interview them. Look for qualifications Training and Expertise. Realtors are prohibited from answering questions in regards to fee commissions.

Realtors are prohibited from answering 'fee" questions. My advice is to interview four Realtors and choose the one who will do the best job for you.

Realtors are independent contractors.  They set their own fees individually.  All Realtors are not created equal.  When you interview an agent ask them what they do for you?  Ask them how experienced they are.  Are they full time or part time?

The Realtor is not getting the entire fee.  If they split with a buyers agent  - that's 50%.  Then they split with their broker that is another 50%.  A $1000 fee is already whittled down to $250 by the time the agent gets a check.  Then they have to cover all of their marketing expense related to your listing, their dues, their gas, their fees  and then what is left they put in their pocket.

The Realtor helps you prepare your home for sale.  Spends time and money marketing.  Negotiates on your behalf.  Protects your interests during the entire transaction.  An excellent Realtor more than earns the fee they ask.

You have to ask yourself - do I want to settle for a "Walmart" Realtor or am I willing to pay for the best?
