What is it with West Wilmette teardowns?

Profile picture for NewHomeNotebook
New construction in East Wilmette and Central Wilmette is generally tasteful and blends well with the context of the neighborhoods.

When you get west of Locust Road, however, it seems to go downhill rapidly. A few of the new homes are pleasing enough, but many are truly awful.

Why the difference between east and west?

Because West Wilmette is generaly considered very bland. West Wilmette is similar to Skokie, Morton Grove, or West Evanston. The homes in West Wilmette are of the 40's, 50's, and 60's. East Wilmette is very old. East Wilmette has a specific standard and style. Eventually what was West Wilmette will be all torn down and replaced. Replaced with homes of a similar style. The developers are simply trying to create a style. Hey are you Joe Zekas?
