There are no set fees, all fees are negotiable.
Most agents will want either 6 or 7 percent.
If the home is a short sale property (and the bank is probably covering the selling fee) the banks typically will only pay 5 percent.
Personally, on MLS I mostly see payouts of 2.7 percent to the buy side agents, which would suggest the listing agent has gotten 6 percent for the listing and is keeping 3.3 percent for their work.
Just remember, most listing agents cover all expenses related to advertising your property, and therefore all the risk if it doesn't sell. And they also split their commission with their broker (Edina, Burnet, etc) so they're not rolling in dough if you're paying them 6 percent.
