What is the best method to 'flag' bugs found in house sale postings?

Many house sold prices  have decimal place typo's showing 1/10 actual price, thereby skewing zestimates for entire neighborhoods, and suppressing the actual values of homes.

They do care; but the error is not theirs; it is from the data collection companies they pay to provide the data.  They don't have an easy means to check them, and correction is time consuming as it has to be verified first.

It doesn't affect most estimates as the number of errors are usually small compared to the actual number of sales., and their curve fitting method discards those sales that are way out of line with the curve fit and recalculates the coefficients prior to using the coefficients for extrapolation for the estimates.

The flag does send a priority E-mail to Zillow staff for review of the issue.  This usually is the fasted method of getting an issue resolved.  But as mentioned, 100 employees cannot check 90 million ownership housing units by hand to resolve the issues.  It takes time.  And often, they want to give the problem back to the data collector they paid so that the data collector will verify the records, and will revise their procedures to minimize future similar issues.

But it doesn't hurt to send additional E-mails.  Just be aware, if they spend too much time answering redundant E-mails, they are not spending that time actually resolving problems.

If you are sure about the amount a house sold for, then by all means flag it (as wetdawgs says), but don't stop there. I have tried this and gotten no results. To make sure it gets corrected you may have to contact a Zillow employee directly.

If you are not sure about a home's selling price, but are just happening to notice that a few in your neighborhood a listed as recently "sold" for a ridiculously low amount, it might not have been a sale at all...

I have noticed that Zillow is reporting basic Title changes as sales when they are recorded at the Recorder's Office and tax is paid. Of course these are not sales, but it must be a bug in Zillow's reporting system. I have tried in vain to notify them about it, but they don't seem to care. If you notice anything along those lines in your area, please bring it to their attention.

Thank you and Good Luck!
