One way to find out in Richland County is to search richlandonline.org. Or go to the tak assessor's office on Harden Street. You can Google the county tax records and find tax records for most counties.

Most counties post online now days.  Find the official website for the county.  Then go right to departments.  Look for Tax Assessor, or Property info.  Sometimes Land and and Development. Drill down until you get to a search field once you are somewhere in the property tax assessors information pages.  From there, it's as easy as knowing the addresss, the seller's name, or sometimes if the county is GIS map capable, you just click on the plot you are interested in.  Viola!  All the governments info.  However, accurate or current that can be.  oof.  Sometimes when you have hit pay dirt, you find a Zero in the spot you are looknig for.  Normally that's not in the tax assessed value spot.  The gov't clearly wants to get paid, so they usually have that field appropriately marked.  http://smartreinvestments.blogspot.com

Call the local municipality and speak with either their assessing or treasurer department.  Many municipalities in our area have that information online.  Good luck!
