What is the difference between a real estate agent and a real estate broker? Do I need both?

A real estate agent is licensed to sell and buy real estate. A broker must pass a broker exam and has more licensing requirements and fees. A broker is able to place agents underneath them, collects a percentage of their sales and is responsible for their actions to a certain extent. Many agents are licensed as brokers but are not practicing brokers. They work as agents but retain the broker title.

You do not need both. At the end of the day it would be much better for you to work with an experienced hardworking agent, then a broker with no experience or work ethic.

If you are looking to buy or sell nearby South Pasadena, please stop by my office for a more in depth consultation. My office is located at 815 Fair Oaks Ave, South Pasadena CA 91030. I am a licensed and practicing broker.

This question is out of Louisiana so they probably will not be coming to Pasadena.

A real estate agent, is a licensed agent.  A Real Estate Broker has additional training and education, all real estate agents must hang their license with a designated Real Estate Broker.  P.S.  Not all Real Estate Agents are Realtors(R)
