If you are looking to buy with a minimum down payment of 3.5 to 5% most lenders are looking for at least a 620 score.

With a larger down payment say 20 - 30% down there are some who will consider a 580 score.

However, under the current market conditions credit score alone will not get you a loan.  The best thing to do is contact a reputable lender in town and request to get pre approved, it takes only a few minutes, it's free and can be done over the phone.  If you need a referral to a lender let me know.
