What is the most reasonable way to have a new roof installed in S. Florida?

I've heard that roofing contractors charge over $35,000 for a Mediterranean style roof. Back on Long Island, where I live full time, a new architectural shingle roof would only cost $6000 for a similar size ranch home. I will be buying a second home that needs a new roof. What should I do?

@Steve:   One of the tricks of posting on Zillow is to check the date of the question before responding.   It can save you a lot of time.

Give me a call and I will help you find the best possible materials and installers.
I am a general contractor and I usually purchase the materials and labor wholesale and pass the savings onto the consumer.

Greetings Bethany, fortunately for the Long Islanders they are not dealing with a roof system and shingles that must meet the high velocity requirements of the Florida Bldg Code and unfortunately for you (now purchasing in S.FL) you have to pay the difference. Nonetheless, reach out to Mario w/City Roofing at 305-218-7901. He's an honest and reasonable roofer. If you remember to let me know if he saved you any money, I'm curious to know.
