Commissions are absolutely negotiable but be careful not to choose a Realtor solely based on this. The most successful Realtors in your area( who might have a great marketing plan and results to back it) might not come down in the commission as much as someone who will just list it and wait for it to sell. If you are also going to be using that Realtor to help you buy a home that could also help.
Good luck!

Comission is always suppossed to be negotiable. However, my guess is you will hear 6% quite a lot. If you are thinking of selling, you could call a few real estate agents and interview them, then they could let you know what they would like to offer. I doubt you will get any answer other than "it is negotiable" because by law commisions must be negotiable. You might consider paying for some costs out of pocket, like advertising in return for a lower overall comission. I personally would only negotiate the listing agents fees lower, not the buyer's agent fees as that COULD result in less incentive for the buyer's agent to show your house as oppossed to others, Good luck!
What is the percentage charged by realtors in Iowa city?
