What is the recommended time to wait after buying a house before you sale it?

We bought a house on 9.4 acres in TX in Dec. In April my husband got transferred without warning and has been working out of town for 3 weeks and home for 1 week at a time. With an almost one year old we would like to be together more as a family but feel trapped by the house.

Everyones advice has been good.  You can also look into a 1031 exchange if you do have a financial gain on the property.  Also consider renting the property and hiring a property manager to look after the home as well.

Legally, we as Realtors can't give tax advice, but I would let you know that you only pay taxes when you have a gain, so if you sell for a loss or just break even, you will not have taxes to pay.   You should never feel trapped as there are ALWAYS options.  Consult with your REALTOR and he/she can help you reach your goals.

Your best advice here is to contact your tax adviser.  And look and your current mortgage to make sure you don''t have any prepayment penalties.

I recommend that as long as you have enough equity in the property to sell it doesn't matter. As an investor I have seen properties sold in anywhere from 1 day to 6 months after purchase. The only exceptions are loan prepayment penalties and deed restrictions from selling within a certain time frame.
