It depends on what your version of "Nice" details. I suggest rather than ask others, you do some research on the property & the neighbors. Drive around at different times of day & night. Get a crime report from the police station in the area. Don't forget the school report card's too! Hope it goes well for you. :-)

Yes Dan River Mills closed  but Danville is nice town. As with everywhere jobs can be tough but if your looking for southern hospitality you found it. My Dad (deceased) was from Danville, still have relatives in the area and know it well. As with all cities of any size there are a couple of areas of the city that you would not hold in hoigh reguard. The City has taken steps in recent years to address this problem. I had a client who bought an old voctorian last year to fix up as her second home. She lives and works in the Washington DC area. Best thing to do is visit for a weekend and drive around the neighborhoods daytime and nighttime to get a good feel for the place.

Danville Virginia is one of the places I was looking at. It seems like a nice city. The problem it has is Danriver textiles closed. When a one horse town has its horse die it is always a problem. The population is now declining. Jobs are not as plentiful as they could be.

http://www.city-data.com/city/Danville-Virginia.html  gives you some good stats for it. There is also a party of the site where people ask and answer questions about specific cities and towns.
