What kind of bathroom updates require a permit?

A friend of mine is redoing her bathroom. She hired a handyman to help her to do the remodeling. She is basically replacing everthing in the bathroom; bathtub, tub spout, shower head, tiles on tub surrounds, tile on the floor, new cabinets, etc...
Does she need to get a permit if she does it by herself? If so, which job requires a permit?

Yes she does a permit.
From what you mentioned she would need a plumbing permit.
If she is replacing any electrical or updating electrical fixtures she would need a electrical permit.
If she is adding a bath fan or replacing a bath fan she would need a mechanical permit for the duct work to vent the fan.
