Just gave a half bushel of steamed Crabs as a closing gift to a couple from New Mexico who craved seafood again as originally from the eastern shore. They were thrilled. Also helped them unload their rental truck. After spending time showing clients around sometimes for months, you hear their likes. Gifts that show you Listen are usually a hit. A planned take out dinner for the first night in their new home is nice too.

The gift should be different for each client; for instance I would not give a bottle of wine (sorry Julie) to somebody with a drinking problem...listen attentively to see what their interests are and then buy something accordingly. My trademark is a Record Book where I place a photo of the property and where the homeowner can keep track of the work done to the property, paint colors, new appliances, etc....I also give along with that an emergency kit if I have not developed a feeling for their personal interests.

What kind of closing gifts do agents like to receive?
A colleague of mine shares a story about working with a seller over a few months to get their home ready to sell - referring contractors, stagers, cleaners, movers, the stuff we do so often. For some reason, this agent also gave the client a $2500 discount from her normal fee. Anyway, house sells, client moves away, comes back a few months where they meet at a party with some mutual friends. The client tells this agent, "Our buying agent there gave us the greatest closing gift: she printed up five sheets of labels with our new address on them."

Depends on their personality. As you get to know your clients you will figure out what they like. Resturants, home improvement stores, home decorating etc. Adjust to what they like and they'll be happy!

We have our clients fill out a "Client Profile" form when meeting for the buyer consultation, which has areas for them to fill out what their interests are. We ask for favorite restaurants, hobbies, type of entertainment, etc. This helps us to purchase them a closing gift that they will love, in addition to sending them other items for birthdays, holidays in the future.
Typically we give our clients a gift certificate to our handyman or contractor if we know they will be conducting repairs or updating their new home.

A gift card to Lowes or Home Depot is usually what my clients choose. However, some ask for restaurant gift cards.

I don't think I ever even thought about getting a "closing gift" from my broker when we bought our house. It would not have made me any happier with their service. They did a great job, and we are living in our dream house - how could I ask for more.

My service should be enough for my customers as I work very hard for both seller and buyers. A gift should not be expected from the seller or buyer when we provide our services to a customer - my question to those who expect a gift to them is, "do you provide a gift to your customer's in your line of work?" With that being said I typically do purchase a Lowe's gift card. I don't mind buying a gift card but if asked by the customer what I am going to give them, then I give them my best service with a smile.

Like Sharon said, I think it is important to give them the gift of great service! I think a welcome home basket is also something that is a thoughtful gift. Gift cards to some of their favorite places, info on local companies and phone numbers/websites they will need, etc.

During the buying process, listen well to their preferences and then purchase a gift that suits their inerests. Champagne is not always great if you attend AA and pizza is a no-no if you are on a diet. Just do what we should do best, listen attentively and you will not go wrong!

I give my clients great service, through out the process and as a gift,I listen to what they like during the process and purchase something I know they will appreciate, plus I have a customer appreciation party at least once a year, not always during the holidays.
