What lengths does Zillow take to make sure scams aren't posted on your website?

I have recently found a place on your website that I have been trying to start a lease agreement with the owner and feel it might be an internet scam (2570 South Dayton, Denver).  He has told me that a lease agreement and keys will be sent through a company called TNT and that I need to send money to him to release the agreement and keys to me, and once I give an 'OK' then the money will be given to him.  I don't feel that this is a valid way of doing business and am wondering what lengths you take as a website to make sure scams aren't happening on here.

Besides, what keys are they going to send you?  It costs less than $2 for a key at a building supply store such as Home depot.  So they think that key that doesn't open any known locks is worth over $1k?  That is some profit margin!

As Sunnyview and Wetdawgs posted; Zillow will take action on Scams if they are reported, but they have no ability to vet each listing individually, thus they rely heavily on those that observe such things to report it using the "report a problem" button under the edit pull down tab under the main photo on the home details page.

If no one reports it; likely the deception continues.

And yes, a scammer just posted on the discussion board a few days ago that pretending to escrow deposit money for rentals is the new way scammers are trying to get around people recognizing it is a scam.  The scammer even created a second profile to state that escrowing the money is just fine if you follow the website instructions; never minding if is a real escrow company or not.  Also not paying attention to the detail that you can't get your money back out of escrow without the release from the other party.  And also not mentioning that a scammer is going to use fraud to forge the info for getting your money regardless.

Report the scams, and don't get taken in by them.  There are millions of scammers out there just waiting to break the law and steal other people's money.  And it becomes even harder to prosecute if they are out of the country.

(Some of them really believe the U.S. statement "innocent until proven guilty" really means "only illegal if they are caught", like Bernie Madoff, who made-off with billions).

If your radar is going off, it probably is a scam!  However, I would try to contact the company (TNT) to speak and meet with them directly.  I would also ask the owner to provide references from his previous clients regarding the method of his transactions.

I think it is a definite scam.  All that's missing is the offer of a free iPad.

Sounds like a scam.   Zillow works hard to minimize scams and is increasing their vigilance, but doesn't vet each advertisement.

The link Sunnyview provided is essential reading.

You can flag scams using the "report problem with listing" link at the bottom of the page and Zillow will investigate. Any owner who asks you to send money for keys is a scammer in my book and no legitimate managment company would release keys to you without a full application or someone showing the property in person.

Zillow has a page on avoiding and reporting scams here.

A Zillow representative would be the best person to direct that question.  Your statements do not render enough information to even address.  Sounds very odd.  Good luck.
