One thing you need to check on is the well depth in the area. If you find the area wells are in the 700-800 foot range you might not be able to power your well with solar. The earlier suggestion about holding tanks is a good and you might want to consider a back up generator.

My 1st thought when buying off the grid near Ward, Colorado would be water.  Does it have a well, how deep is the well or do they have to drill for water in the area?  Does it come with surface water rights if so how good are they?  Hauling water will be expensive if it is a full time residence and you need to consider fire protection as well, if that is your only option.  Since you are off grid, you will still need a substantial cistern to store the water.

Are you planning on putting in solar or using a wind generator, or just roughing it?
