About purchasing a home and when is the best time? Most anytime is the best time to purchase a home. Later in the year there is less to choose from, where if you spring shop there will be more inventory and maybe you will have more to choose from. But in the winter time sellers want to get rid of their homes because they don't want to carry them thru the winter if you are in a cold climate. So location has a lot to do with when is a good time to buy and interest rates too.

Hi,

Timing can be looked at from a few perspectives:

In general, it can be the best time to buy
1) When it meets your personal timeline
2) After Schools start at the end of summer, but before seasonal inventory shrinks
3) When you think the interest rates and home prices are going to be headed up sigificantly in the near future in your area

There are other perspectives, depending on if you are an:
1) Owner occupied buyer that plans to be in the house for 5-7 yhears or more
2) If you are a house flipper
3) If you are a contractor
etc.

Please let me know what category you are in.

All the best,

Arpad

Poster must have just come home from a Realtor pep rally.......

HINT - Its a trick question,  Realtors - 'Now' is NOT the correct answer. And if the word NOW came up as your first choice, you've sat through way TOOOO many seminars, channeling your brains into one brain-less mindset of Realtor-speak. Sad, but to be expected here ......

Realistically NOW isnt the best time for people to list, or there would be 4.6 billion new listings today, driving down home prices to less than zero. NOW would only be good if an asteroid was going to hit us tomorrow, which it isnt. So next time this dumb question is asked, dont say NOW. Keep in mind potential sellers DO read this column, and they dont want a listing agent who simply talks Realtor-speak as their listing agent.

The time to buy is now and when you ready, both financially and emotionally.  Best of luck!

Okay, Mr.  Premier Agent.  Why do you ask?

The right time to buy is when a person (or couple) is ready to buy and that is a very individual matter.

To chime in with John Thyne... I'm going to second that "NOW"!  Interest rates are soooo low AND the market is a little less competitive now that we are entering the holiday months, so in my area of town (DFW) the number of multiple offers on new listings has decreased which means that homes are not selling at the crazy-high prices they did over the summer... clearly better if you're a buyer.  If you are ready to buy a home, NOW is the ideal time!!!  Go get it!  ;)

NOW!!!!!   (Really!) ... This is a great time for buyers...  anyone who has been around Real Estate for the last 25 years will tell you that the interest rates are at the lowest levels ever and the prices of homes are still catching up from the blow they took in the previous 5 year period of "craziness"...    Don't wait. If you want a home either for the first time or you are moving up...this is by far, the best time to go for it...  Good luck!
