Many sources of listing information are questionalble at best. If a buyer has a Real Estate Professional, they can lean on their agent to verify what is actually on the market. Even if the home is listed by an owner, builder or otherwise, a buyers agent will call to verify facts including costs, fees... and even whether the property is actually for sale.

Listings showing a property for sale (red icon and the words "for sale" on the home detail page) come from agents, their brokerages or owners.   You can find the source by opening the home details page and scrolling to the very bottom.  Some of the sources are very good about keeping the status accurate, some don't take the time to remove listings.   (Zillow is doing more and more so listings have to be reactivated periodically, but that hasn't taken care of the entire problem).
