Which Miami area has the best public schools? Highest test scores, no violence/gangs, upper class?

Profile picture for blondezing
We are moving from California to Miami this summer, and I need to find the BEST public schools before I can look for a house.  We lived in Coral Gables about 8 years ago, and our kids went to private school. Unfortunately, that's out of our budget for now...
Our daughters are 16 going into 11th grade (AP, honor roll), 11.5 going into 6th, and 7 going into 2nd.  So We need to live near a high school, middle school & elementary school....
PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks in advance for your opinions!!

Contact the local police department in the areas of interest for stats on crime and the school sites for details on school ratings and specifics.

Realtors are discouraged from providing that information since it's based on personal preference and opinion. Even an A-rated school may not necessarily mean it's a safe or educationally excellent when it comes down to the details.

Hello,
When i moved from California to Miami many years ago.... there was no e mails or internet and somehow we mad it. You are already familiar with Miami and you know what's important to you. I suggest you get in touch with a local Realtor and by pre viewing listing you can get may important information. I have helped many buyers from other states and overseas to locate and purchase properties all over Miami.
I'll be glade to help,

Hi again:
As for price?  We're still not sure. Of course we want the biggest house for the lowest price, so we're looking at foreclosures. 4+ bedroom, 2.5 + bathrooms, a pool would be nice, but if the properties big enough, we can build.
We still own our home in California, and due to loss of value, we're going to rent it out to executives from oil companies for the next few yeears.  So, IDK where that puts us for price yet. My husband currently works in Central America, but we pay taxes in the States on his salary above 'x' amount. I'm currently looking at anything from $275k (a real fixer upper but excellent location) - $750k (turn key, or a super big fixer upper)...
Does that help?
Thank you!!
:-}

You are correct, the search can be overwhelming. While I do not have a relocation specialist designation, I have worked with quite a few buyers moving from as far away as Alaska, Hawaii, and Connecticut.

With the additional information you have provided I could set up a search for you. But would still need to know the size of home you are looking for, how many bedrooms, baths, pool (yes/no), garage? And of course the all important price range.

I can set up the search for homes for you to review, with absolutely no cost or commitment on your part. It would be a relative simple process for me to do for you. It is would be a great way for you to get an idea with property addresses, property descriptions, and pictures of homes, when available.

Please feel free to send me an email with your search requirements.

Hi there,
Thank you for your replies!! I'd like to add a little more information to better help my original question:
We want to live in a walk friendly area. So, I automatically started looking in Coral Gables and Coconut Grove. We used to have friends out in Pinecrest and Kendall, but they seemed too "suburban" and new for us. We like more established areas, big green trees, old houses in great condition w tons of character, walking to shops, parks, restaurants.....
Maybe I should find a relocation agent with many years of experience and connections? IDK... It's starting to become overwhelming.....

Good Afternoon,

As someone that made the move from California to Miami, I know full well the importance of moving to an area where the schools are the best for our children.

There are many different areas in and around Coral Gables, such as Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, E. Kendall, etc that have top rated schools. Some of which are magnet schools specializing in visual and performing arts, sciences, medicine, oceanography.

Which areas you can consider will depend on the price range that you are looking in, and the size of home. Are you looking for a newer home in a newer development or an older established neighborhood. These are questions that would need to be answered, in order to give good ideas of which neighborhoods to concentrate on.

With this information, I could easily set up a search in various neighborhoods and forward that information to you for your review in preparation for you move east. Please feel free to contact me and I can have that search set up for you.

Hello,
I recommend the West Kendall Area zip codes 33185 & 33193.where I currently reside with my wife and four kids. Excellent "A" rated schools nearby within a mile from each other, elementary "Dr.Manuel Barreiro" , Middle School "Lamar Louise Curry", HighSchool with excellent Magnet program "John A. Ferguson" . The homes in there area are fairly newer built homes. I can send you a list for free of available homes in the area.
You may contact me directly should you have any further questions.
