Liz, although I wish to relocate to a far warmer location everything you posted sounds inviting. This was a very good first post.

Salem sounds lovely. I bet you have some great traditional houses too with all that pretty woodwork. Do you have good local schools too?

Dan, I hope you find what you're looking for in a warmer climate, but this winter in Salem has been about as nice as they come! Today it's actually 50 degrees and sunny, and my daffodils are starting to pop up through the dirt. So, no winter blues here :-)
And Sunnyview, we have so many great aspects to living in Salem, schools are just one of them. The best part of this area is that we are a "community" and small enough to get to know people easily, but no one is "in your face" overly-friendly unless you want them to be. So it's a win-win all the way around, and we've been comfortable here for over 12 years now.

That is a good post!
Good info. Salem is too far North for me! but this makes a nice place to reference if I had an interest (or an interested customer)

Salem's Library, built in 2003 and more than just books. It's also a community center, with evening programs, Summer Reading programs, and two book clubs!
Salem School, truly a community plus where children start in Kindergarten, and go all the way through 8th grade.
The MOM's Club! A wonderful group of parents in town who lend support, give information, and help in the community in so many ways. A great place to start when you are new in town, and don't know anyone.
Salem Recreation Dept.- Everything from Little League baseball to Zumba classes, this active group always has something on the calendar for residents to take part in.
The First Responders - a wonderful group of EMT's firefighters and state troopers who are there in emergencies, often as volunteers.
Apple Festival,Friends of the Library Book Sale, Lions Club Tag Sale, just to name a few of the local events here in Salem that everyone attends.
There's a few to begin with, now come visit here and see what else is going on in Salem and why it's home to so many life-long residents who really feel at home here.
