Why are Zillow records so innacurate and when records are falgged Zillow will not correct?

Profile picture for nycchic

Over the last month or two I've flagged incorrect information in Zillow site regarding property sales. Although Zillow appears to have a "flagging system" that allows for people to help them provide accurate information, Zillow will not change incorrect information even when innaccuracy is easily verifiable through State records. It complete devalues properties and misinforms the public

I believe they do the  best they can. Some states, like Colorado, do furnish incomplete data to sites like Zillow, Trulia, etc. Some states are much better than others. Typically California is pretty good. Also dont forget ZIllow is free. Appraisers like myself pay dearly for better data - at a cost.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Zillow website states they will take 2 weeks to verify and update information. If they are updating thousands of other records, they should simply extend the time period they state they need to correct files and manage expectations.
The issue of lack of accuracy is not the impact it may or may not have to the value of a particular property, but if they are records are so far off (over 200% off property records), the site and information it provides is useless if all their records have a deviation of 200% or more. It  then does not provide even limited guideance on trends, regions or neighborhoods.
If they do not want people to help them become more accurate, then why even bother having a flagging system?

Be patient, they only have 45 gazillion homes to confirm accuracy. Either way, your home is not worth any less or more if Zillow, or any other free website showing your homes data, is not 100% correct.
