If the Realtors cannot even understand my posts on here, how could they possibly understand what I'm looking for, and the criterion required to locate it?
I've posted several times that if an agent can find what I'm looking for, that they can have the commission, and posted the search requirements. No one bothers to look.
Personally, I don't like Trulia because Realtors only market to other Realtors and delete people's comments including their own, and their site is not as easy for me to navigate and doesn't provide the trend data and the local info data. But when looking at a specific property or area, I look at at least 10 different sites to get an idea of the differences, and to run some statistical analysis of any opinions of approximate value provided.
I don't like Realtor.com for estimating as they only have a link to contact a local advertising Realtor, who by the very nature of the advertisement, is not the agent that I would chose to represent me. And I certainly am not going to intentionally waste 3,000 hours of my selected agent's time to try to "pre-screen" things for me, when I don't want anyone pre-screening things for me. It would take me 8,000 hours to explain to you how I want my "search" set up, and what is absolutely not acceptable, and what might be made to work with some revisions. Unless you have 20 years contractor experience, and 30 years Architectural experience, you are just not going to see the properties the way I see them, no matter how hard you try.
But really, I don't think people chose Zillow over the others. Have a look at the statistics on the advertising page:
Little audience overlap(8)
AOL real estate 3%
MSN Real Estate 5%
Yahoo! Real Estate 7%
Trulia.com 26%
Realtor.com 17%

Wes, I use realtor.com and forsalebyowner.com. I also occasionally look at realtybid.com and other sites. I would have a very difficult time finding an agent to work with me. I have a unique searching situation. I am considering several different states and ares within those states. How many agents want to have a 5% chance of being the one who gets the sale when (not if) I decide to buy? No realtor can send me every listing in Florida, Virginia, and Georgia (among others). That means I am on my own.
Some realtors will limit their listings they send. They can rule out properties I might think was perfect. The online looking gets me every single MLS listing available I can choose from instead of just a few of them.
At least this internet approach makes it a lot easier for me to find houses compared to the old days when you had an actual book of MLS listings to look through. I did that also.

To be honest by the time my past realtor would send an email or message saying he knew of house that fit my parameters, I would have already checked it out online, driven by, and decided if I wanted to see it or not.

In my opinion, it's because Zillow.com ranks higher on search engines. When a buyer or seller inputs an address into google, Zillow usually comes up first. From there on, the consumer sticks to it.

Why do or don't online lookers use Zillow instead of Trulia.com or Realtor.com?
