Why do so many zillow listings show thousands of acres when they often have no acreage?

I've recollect  others reported this in Grants Pass a few of months ago. At that time, the agents' listing feeds had the huge lots and were sending the wrong info to Zillow.   If it is still a problem, it sounds like the agents' listing feeds have not been fixed.

Do you wish to provide some examples?   If so, I can flag them for Zillow customer service to investigate.

Usually, adding the keyword "acre" to your filters will resolve this.  If it really is a property with "acreage" rather than a typical housing lot, the listing agent will usually put it in the description.

If you go into Grants Pass and look for under $400,000 and a minimum of 5 acres you will see many examples.  They show over 1000 acres up to 1 billion acres.
