Why does Zillow let people lie by entering fake huge lot sizes in order to bump up the Zestimate?

Most of the fake lot sizes are syndication errors from other websites where the number format or units are different.  There is no simple solution to that problem.

The assumption is that if a property is listed for sale, the owner and agent want the listings for the property to be as representative as possible since those details will be seen right away, and if not seen early, could cause an offer to fall through in the middle of the process.

There will always be those that try to cheat the system no mater what.  Allowing owners and agents to correct the public data makes more of the data better than worse.  Even if there was a way to "check" for unreasonable revisions, those that want to cheat the system still will.

There is a time delay from the time revised data is provided to the time it affects the estimates to help discourage gaming the numbers.

Ultimately, the Zestimate doesn't make that much difference as there are plenty of other places to get other estimates, including Realtor CMA's.

If you find the wrong lot size, use the "Report a Problem" on the home details page.
