Why is Zillow's recently sold data so behind the current data?

It is frustrating to check recently sold info when your data is so far behind the times. I have also noted that when a house does sell the Zillow estimate of value is higher than the sold price BUT when a house is currently for sale that the Zillow estimate is uusually always lower than the list price.

Zillow gets recently sold from a third party data provider pulling it from county records.   In my area I am seeing the information about 10 to 14 calendar days after closing, in another area I've seen it happen 4 to 9 months.
