Why is my home undervalued on Zillow??

Profile picture for brianmckinnon
We purchased our home in June of 2010 and since then have done over 100K in remodeling and value added items.

However against other homes in my neighborhood Zillow still has my home having a "Zestimate" of well under competitve home listings. This is hurting us while we market our home for sale.

Please help.

Zillow is a fun online estimating tool not to be taken as serious fair market value. Buyers should and will consult their agents on value before making an offer as opposed to using Zillow. Take the suggestion below and enter the appraisal amount.

Claim your home and enter the appraisal (with the date of the appraisal) into the section under "Zestimate' called "owner's comments".  If it is already on the market, you probably can't claim the home if an agent has an ad showing, but perhaps the agent can put it in the comments.

Zestimates are not appraisals.

Norwell,

I would contact a local agent and have them send you some comps. Zillow did the same thing to my dads as well. In todays market, putting in 100k does not mean you will get that back when reselling.
