I had to the same, the reason being is that I owned a home in which is my primary residence and I apply for a loan for a primary residence.
The bank thought I was buying an income property and wanted to give me a higher rate. I wrote the letter explaining why I needed a biger home for my growing family and it worked. I got the loan at a low interest rate.
