Yes, there are rules for posting. I think one of the most important other then being polite is this policy here against spamming the board with self promotion. I have seen agents get the best response and number of views by posting information/photos about local areas and neighborhoods or links to helpful articles from reputable sources. People love to see nice write ups for community events and for interesting local area from historic neighborhoods to favorite dishes at local restaurants.

You know your area well. People on the board are drawn to information and interesting topics. You can also get more hits by tailoring your profile page so the Zillow community can get to know you better. They have a great video on that here. You don't need a lot of new thread posts to become known on Zillow. Being helpful to posters not in your area on topics of general real estate knowledge and adding links to help sites can all improve your number of hits and contacts. For example, Mike Emery here is very helpful and gets a lot of thumbs up from posters for his posts. Hope the links help.
