Why would the VA lower the appraisal of my home?

Appraiser valued my home at $320,000.  VA called him, talked him into lowering it
to $295,000.  WHY?

VA wouldnt talk them into anything. They would have talked to the appraiser and perhaps found out there was a steep driveway and other things  that would have taken value away from the home. Ask whoever you are working with to find out what the issue was. Could be a number of items.
