As of today it is only retroactive until December 31, 2008. However, they plan on resuming debates tomorrow.

This is for everyone who says it is not FAIR:
October 3, 2008
The shots that 90-year-old Addie Polk fired into her chest as she was about to be evicted from her foreclosed Akron home were heard in Washington, D.C. On Friday, as Congress was preparing a bailout of Wall Street, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Cleveland, took the House floor and decried Polk's plight.
By midafternoon, the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) announced it would dismiss its foreclosure action against Polk, FORGIVE her mortgage and allow her to return to her home.
WHY are the tax payers on the hook for this??
Nothing with the government from the time I was born born in 1949 through today and into the future will ever be fair or honest!! Politicians are immoral, unethical, cheat on taxes and do anything they have to in order to line their own pockets while giving us the big finger.

Nope. If you bought form April 08 to December 31st 2008 Uncle Sam says F you. You have to pay it back.

As it stands now the answer appears to be "No". However, since so many people bought at a time when the government needed the lending institutions to make loans it doesn't seem fair to make them pay their tax credit back and let others get a tax free credit. Hopefully organizations like the National Association of Realtors can do something to get that changed if the bill is actually signed without being retroactive. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything that said it is retroactive.

Will the new tax credit of $8000 w/out repayment will be retroactive to orig start date of April 08?
