Wrong information on sales history of my home

Zillow is doing me and any potential buyer of my home a grave disservice by publishing incorrect sales information on the Zillow estimate site. Zillow shows my home at 5300 SW Dogwood Lane, Portland Oregon sold in 2005 when, in fact, there was no house sale recorded. What was recorded was a lot line adjustment. This is causing grave harm to me as a seller, and my home has been listed for sale now for 4 months. If you do not change this information, I will be forced to take legal action. Please do so immediately. Also, I have published changes to your other information as you have the incorrect information for the number of bedrooms and bathrooms also and do not have the correct information regarding the age of the home and the remodeling that has been done. If you are going to publish information and make it public, it is incumbent upon your organization to make sure this is accurate. Please contact me at kathleentcob@yahoo.com and verify you have received this complaint and what you plan to do to correct this situation.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I have contacted the Washington County Assessor's office and have confirmed that we are reflecting the same home facts that they have. Also, the Recorder's office confirmed that there is indeed no sale transaction that happened in 2005 for your home. I've also sent a response to your e-mail address.

I have a similar problem - but mine is a lack of sales data. My address is 3714 124th Ave Ct East, zip 98372. The zillow data for the home shows no sales, but in fact it was sold in Sep 2005. The home is located in Pierce County, Washington State. The parcel number is 6023880080

The result is that my home value is low by SEVERAL hundred of thousands of dollars. This is serious. Please, Please, correct this. Thanks.

Hi mdmcmaster -

We do apologize if your sale history is not updated. It may be possible that our data providers have not yet collected the sale information about your home. Rest assured that we are constantly adding information in our database, although sometimes it takes time, because the upload of the updated set of properties are done by batches (you can imagine what a difficult task this is for the entire U.S.).

Since you folks at Zillow seem quite capable of calling up counties for data whenever someone mentions a lawsuit, let's add mine to the mix.... 28 Sunnybrook Road, Yonkers, NY, did NOT sell for the $7,525,000 you list, and that number did NOT come from the Westchester County office -- I know, I checked, and even have a deed with their official seal backing up the price I DID pay, which is $2,150,000. Incidentally, I also checked my city, Yonkers. They do NOT record sale price data and thus no data could have originated from them.

While you may have many people upset with prices too low, the problem you are causing me - and the harm - is the opposite: having a tax assessor question me about 2.15 when your site shows 7.525 could potentially result in a hefty tax hit on nonsensical, made-up data. Can you say DAMAGES?

Karen - thanks for your reply but please realize this transaction occurred 24 months ago. That's 2 years, or 24 months, or more than 700 days ago! I would think a batch update occurs more frequently than that! Would you please check further? Here is the Washington State, Pierce County Assessor website: http://www.co.pierce.wa.us/pc/abtus/ourorg/at/at.htm. Again, my parcel number is 6023880080. Thank you!

Weird situation -- zillow says the price of my house -- 16617 Black Oks Ln, zip: 55391, is up 49% since last sale (in October 2002). Zillow has the correct sale price in 2002, but the value quoted by zillow shows it to be up only 17%.

Also absolutely no adjustment for lakefront, nor are any of the comparables lakefront homes (that makes a huge difference in Wayzata). The best comparable -- 405 Black Oaks Ln, (0.1 mile away), which sold in June 2007 (check the Hennepin county "Property Information Finder", public data on the county website), and is also lakefront and of similar age, does not even show up as a property on a zillow search.

Wasting your time. Nobody home at Zillow. Essentially they get batch data and try to shoe-horn it into a few categories. The Zestimate stuff is simply basic comparables analysis from recent transactions (correctly reported or otherwise) with algebra 101 feature-weighting. For all the marketing hoopla, it is no more complex than that. All of us would like it to be more, but it isn't.

This is why the real estate community (and I am not a member) takes them with a grain of salt. As do I, now.

A lot can be determined about the sale price of a home and the length of time since it was last flipped by the amount of property taxes. A property tax of $4000 on a home in a neighborhood with multi-million $ homes means the property has kept a single owner for a long time.

Likewise a property that has sold 3+ times in the last 7 years has just seen price escalation driven by a bunch of parasitic flippers (who probably also took a lot of cash back each time they purchased it for "repairs" - or or new SUVs).

The previous sales price information is the most important data zillow offers. I'm noticing that sometimes this disappears from properties I'm looking at - how does one get this information deleted from Zillow's databases? This is not good for potential buyers!

I can't figure out how the year of my house changed from 1990 to 1969. I didn't change it. Our local tax records have it right. Also, when I search on my own property, the value is 679,xxx. When I do my neighbors property and am not searching my own, mine goes up to $730,xxx. Why is it different? My address is 1624 Orca View Lane, Everett WA. This makes me question the accuracy zillow altogether.

Hi simonsfamily -

We currently have a bug in our system causing some homes to appear to be built in 1969 when you are looking at lists of search results or comparables.

Kindly refer to this thread for more information: http://www.zillow.com/forum/site/ViewThread.htm?tid=1145

As for the difference in your Zestimate value, thank you for reporting this. I have forwarded this matter to the proper department and rest assured that we will be looking into it. I will reply to this thread as soon as I have feedback on your concern.

Thank you for your patience.
